In a game, that started well, did not end well for the Phillies, as they fell for the 6th straight time, 5-2 Tuesday night in Oakland.

Pat Burrell got the party started with a solo homerun in the top of the 4th.

That score held until the 7th, when Emil Brown hit a three run bomb to give the A’s a 3-1 lead.

Ryan Howard drove in the second, and final run for the Phillies in the 8th, but Huston Street came on and closed the door for the A’s in the 9th- his 14th save of the season.

Jamie Moyer took the loss for his 5th of the year, going 6.2 innings, allowing 5 hits, and 3 runs. Joe Blanton picked up his 4th win of the season, going 7 innings, allowing 4 hits, and 1 run.

Shane Victorino was the only Phillie player to pick up two hits in the game, - Chase Utley went 0-2 on the night to drop his average to .289 on the year.

Phillies try to break their streak out West

The Philadelphia Phillies are slumping. Marred in their worst losing streak of the year, behind lack of hitting from their star Chase Utley, and no clutch hitting anywhere in the lineup, they are simply not winning games. They hope to reverse that this week, as they hit the road and head West. First up are the Oakland Athletics, who come in with a 41-34 record, but have a 24-18 record at home. The Phillies are 42-35 overall, and 20-17 on the road. Should be a very interesting series.

Here are the pitching matchups for the series in Oakland.

Tuesday: Jamie Moyer(7-4, 4.09) v. Joe Blanton(3-10, 4.81)

Wednesday: Kyle Kendrick(6-3, 5.06) v. Greg Smith(4-5, 3.51)

Thursday: Adam Eaton(2-5, 4.94) v. Rich Harden(4-0, 2.44)

This should be a fun series in the Bay. Blanton has a 3-10 record, but is a much better pitcher than that. We don’t know much about Smith, but Harden is one of the best. He will be tough to beat. The Phillies are going to have to get solid pitching out of Kendrick and Eaton, if they want to take 2 of 3.

Go Phillies, and hopefully Chase can hit his way out of his mini slump!

The Anaheim Angels came into Philadelphia, and made quick and easy work of the home town Phillies. Jered Weaver went 5.1 innings, allowing 4 hits, and 1 run, while striking out 6 to pick up his 7th win of the season, in the Angels 3-2 win. Fransisco Rodriguez picked up his 30th save of the season for the Angels.

For the Phillies, Cole Hamels was the tough luck loser, going 7 innings, allowing 6 hits, 3 runs, all earned and is now 7-5 on the year.

Jimmy Rollins picked up two hits for the Phillies, Chase Utley picked up one, Ryan Howard two, and Pedro Feliz one for the Phillies, who are now 42-35. The Angels moved to 46-30 on the year.

The Phillies will now face Oakland starting on Tuesday in the Bay.

Vladimir Guerrero hit two homeruns, and that was enough for the Anaheim Angels, as they knocked off the Phillies 6-2 on Saturday. Vlad hit solo homeruns in both the 4th and the 7th, but the Phillies tied it back up on a Jason Werth homerun, and Pedro Feliz double. The Angels then scored two in the 8th, and 2 in the 9th to finish off the 6-2 win.

Joe Saunders picked up the win for the Angels, he is now 11-3 on the year. Brett Myers was the loser for the Phillies, he dropped to 3-9 on the season.

Chase Utley did not play. Ryan Howard went 0-4, falling to .216 on the year.

Ervin Santana picked up his ninth win of the season, and kept the Phillies at bay, as the Angels took the first game of the series 7-1 on Friday.

Vladimir Guerrero’s first inning two run homerun was all the Angels needed, but they added one in the second, three in the sixth, and one more in the eighth, where the Phillies only tally came on a Chase Utley sac fly in the 6th.

Chase Utley went 0-3 to fall to .291 on the year, Ryan Howard also held hitless dropped his average to .219.

Chase Utley and the Phillies, are set to take on Mr. No Hitter, Jon Lester this evening. Lester has never faced the Phillies in his career, which would make sense to say Chase has never faced Jon Lester. Let’s hope Chase can get a few hits against Lester. A couple hits today in the forecast? Go Phils!

Ryan Howard is heating up. That’s a great sign for the Phillies. After struggling in their last two games in St. Louis, the Phillies were able to shake off some rust and defeat the defending world series champion, Boston Red Sox  8-2 on Monday.

Howard sent a two run homerun over the boards in the first inning, and then blasted a solo shot in the third, to get the night started. Ryan later tripled in Chase Utley to drive in the 8th and final run for the Phillies. That left him 3-5, with 2 runs scored, 2 homeruns, a triple, 4 rbi’s and 2 strikeouts. Pretty productive night for Ryno! His average is now up to .224. It’s heading in the right direction.

Chase Utley went 0-5 on the night, but did score a run. Jimmy Rollins had three hits, and three rbi’s to help Howard out.

Cole Hamels picked up his 7th win, going 7 innings, allowing 7hits, 2 runs, both earned, walking 2, and striking out five. His only runs allowed  were homeruns to Dustin Pedroia, and JD Drew.

The Phillies and Red Sox are back at it tonight at 6:05 with Jon Lester facing Jaime Moyer.
